Sucker Punch

Haringey Report written by Euclides Montes

6 clinical Goodgymmers carried out some amateur tree surgery as they visited the Noel Park Estate in Wood Green.

We're Suckers For Good Puns

In what was a really lovely summer evening, our 6 Goodgymmers walked, ran, and hobbled to Wood Green to lend the Noel Park Big Local crew a hand in maintaining some of the trees on the Estate.

Armed with secateurs, shears, and other sharp things we walked down the long avenues in N22 in search of trees struggling for water in the heat with an explosion of suckers in their beds. Before long, we had located them and we got on with some tree surgery 101.

It was hot and steamy work but very rewarding as we made quick progress. Halfway through we were approached by some young and very grateful residents who pointed us towards the tree outside their own house and with a little bit of their help, we gave it the trendiest of haircuts.

Our work was temporarily stopped by the arrival of an ice cream truck but by 8pm, we had left half of the trees on Lymington Avenue N22 looking super.

A lovely night.

Finally, big shout to Sarah and Niamh for today's photos and puns. And to Dave, who came simply for the lolz and the ice cream <3

Join us next week for more fun.

We Were So Excited, We Wet Our Plants!

Haringey Report written by Euclides Montes

10 very very hot Goodgymmers ran all around Wood Green helping the community keep their very thirsty trees hydrated during this hot spell.

Kudos Corner

Super Rob joined us for his maiden Goodgym run and he took like a fish to water. He didn't bat an eyelid at the rather cheeky behaviour of some of our Goodgymmers, and he didn't complain even once about the running - unlike some of our more regular Goodgymmers :) Welcome, Rob and hope to see you again soon.

Special mention for Julie who topped the running board overall for the month of July for the whole of Goodgym (bravo) and for Charlie whose amazing pun was cruelly stolen from Strava and landed as the title of the next section (thanks!)

Anything Is Popsicle

The sun is shining

The weather is sweet, yeah

Makes you want to move your dancing feet now

To the rescue, here we are/ Want you to know, y'all, can you understand?

To the rescue, here we are indeed as our Goodgymmers descended upon the Noel Park Estate in Wood Green to help water some very thirsty community gardens.

We met at Blue House Yard where the Cool New Kid Rob was already waiting for us. Gramps haphazardly made his way through a few welcomes and health and safety checks once everyone arrived and before you knew it, we were on our way to our first pit stop: Moselle Meadow. We ran there the long way - much to Alex's consternation as she was introduced to Gramps' infamous distance-keeping efforts - and after a 2k-ish run as advertised (what's an extra half K between friends, eh) we found ourselves using watering cans, plant pots, and buckets to water the grounds of the Meadow as well as a neighbouring water-through-turned-community planter by Chapmans Green.

On we ran to our next stop, armed with watering cans and plenty of chat. Highlights included Neil's James Bondesque tales of adventure driving power boats through icy Scandinavian waters, and Niamh merrily shouting stuff about emissions. Once at Russell Park, our Goodgymmers broke into two groups: some litterpicked the area surrounding the Children's Centre in Russell Park and the other team got on with the job of watering the community planters in the park. By this stage we were all a bit hot under the collar so Gramps rewarded everyone with some popsicles he had stashed away earlier in the day and everyone cooled down nicely. Everyone but Sam, who came back after her holiday full of beans and did not stop even for a sec. A litter picking machine.

A little bit cooler, we ran to our last stop of the evening: the newly-created Parklet on Gladstone Avenue. A member of the community was already watering the planters at the parklet so some of us joined her while the rest played with some children and met some puppies.

Once we were satisfied our job was done, some of us decided we needed some rehydrating ourselves and staggered our way to the pub for some beverages. Not a bad way to spend a warm, summer evening if you ask me.

Don't believe me? join us next week and find out.

Gramps, you're plum-belivable

Haringey Report written by Euclides Montes

11 awesome Goodgymmers descended upon the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve to lend a hand in prepping the site for the rehabilitation of a tree avenue.

Can I get a Woop Woop?

Big noise for Diego who travelled all the way from New Zealand to join us for his maiden run - talk about Goodgym tourism. Boom.

And thanks to everyone last night who celebrated good ol' Gramps as I burst my way through the big door marked '150 Good Deed Club'. You all rock. (And special mention to Alex for today's Gramps-centric pun).

Rollin' In The Deep

Never doubt our Goodgymmers to turn up with their sleeves rolled up when it comes to helping out at the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve: Goodgymmers Gonna Goodgym after all. Give them a call asking for help, and they'll never let You down. They'll turn Up with a smile on their lips and ready for action. Sometimes, they might even turn up in ways that might surprise you!

Anyway, last night was no exception. We all came ready for some hard graft. We removed an old plastic liner from the tree avenue as well as some loose stakes and logs, leaving the pathway ready for the Friends of Westbury Banks Nature Reserve to now come and make a decision on how to rehabilitate the tree avenue.

It looked like a very big job but you should've seen our Goodgymmers - they wasted no time and within 20 minutes, they has sorted it all out.

We even had time to fix a couple of fallen bug hotels and cleared a bunch of fallen tree debris from the newly-laid accesible path.

Having finished our task for the eve, Gramps was surprised with bubbles, cards, and goodies as we tried to take some group shots. Cheeky bunch!

We ate our biscuits and had a good ol' natter late into the evening.

A lovely eve.

Join us next week for more shenanigans.
