lunchtime mission at Ace of Clubs

Wed 28 Jul

We've been asked for some urgent help at Ace of Clubs, a vital charity which supports homeless people in Clapham. They need a hand setting up for an event to support vulnerable men and women, after being forced to close.

This lunchtime mission shouldn't take too long but they would be really grateful for the help!

Dave M has run 100 good deeds with GoodGym. Mon 26 Jul 2021

Dave has just reached another level: 100 good deeds with GoodGym. That's at least 100 times when they could have easily done something easier. But they didn't, Dave has kept going and going. Helping a lot of other people and getting a bit fitter at the same time. Congratulations Dave.

All for one and one floral

Report written by Anastasia Hancock

Absolutely belting to see so many GoodGym faces back again for our newly-returned group runs!

We started outside the BAC for a warm up, and the return of the silly group run question of the week. Last night we asked which Olympic sport - real of imaginary - would you choose? The answers did not disappoint - unicorn dressage, competitive sushi eating and even prosecco pong. That's an Olympics I'd pay good money to watch!

We had a nice short run down to Banana Park for a quick fire fitness session featuring lunges, squats, planks and mountain climbers, before popping across the road to meet Hadas and Rob from Waste Not Want Not.

Our task tonight was to prep and plant flowers that had been donated from Wimbledon to local charities after the tennis had finished. After a briefing from Rob, who has been involved in the Chelsea Flower Show, we got to work. There were some, er, interesting discoveries as we started clearing the ground, including some stinky old takeaway, many potatoes and even an escaping mouse. That didn't deter the team, and before long the ground was ready for some beautifying. Under strict instruction on where to plant, we began making a home for several hydrangeas, lavender plants, ferns and more. Before long, the area was looking stunning and people passing by from Clapham Junction will be able to enjoy it going forward.

It really was testament to what we can achieve over the course of one short group run, and reminded me of one of the very early GG videos. What an amazing transformation!

Next week we'll have a special run celebrating two big milestones and a social afterwards - it will be listed very shortly so watch this space!

Planting flowers

Mon 26 Jul 18:30 pm
Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender Hill, London, SW11 5TN
at a foodsharing charity

After Wimbledon finished, the organisers kindly donated the flowers at the venue to local charities, and Waste Not Want Not was chosen as one of them. We have been asked to come and help plant them before they succumb to the heat!

We will meet outside the BAC (remember there is no bag storage) before taking a run down to the charity to do the planting. We will then get a little fitness session in before running back and stretching. You can choose to head back yourself and skip the second half of the run if you'd prefer.

Bring gloves if you have them!

They call me the Stairmaster

Mon 10 May
Report written by Dave M

When I read that this shopping mission would involve an 8 storey stair climb I thought it was no big deal. 4 storeys up I was questioning my will to live. Thankfully I persevered as I was greeted by the little guy in the picture. Turns out Miss K and I have crossed paths while walking our dogs, so nice to see a familiar face. Hopefully the building fixes their elevator soon so I can run into Miss K out in the open!
