Raising The Stakes
What a lovely crew for a warm evening's jog and good deed!
We met at the Bridge House, shared our favourite household chores (or I guess just the best of a bad bunch...), warmed up (more) in the park and then basically sprinted down the hill to Cator Park. Seriously, it was a cracking pace! ๐โโ๏ธ
When we arrived, we met Millie, Debs, Lou and Matt who were pleased there were so many of us. After dousing ourselves in bug spray, we split into 4 groups:
๐จ Ian (see pic featuring lovely rainbow ๐) and Alex were hammering in stakes to keep the new trees upright. They were then weeding and mulching the areas around the trees so the weeds don't take all of the water...
๐ Kate and George were putting special tree rubber bands and string around the stakes and new trees so they grew in the right direction.
๐ฑClare and Maxim were planting a few wee shrubs and trees and weeding the rose beds.
๐ด And Nick, Sam and I were weeding a patch near some little memorials and putting some tree trunks around the edge.
Basically, we did loads.
Millie was saying how the park would look totally different if it weren't for GoodGym's help because they're able to get so much done that they'd often otherwise not get round to. ๐
Nice one gang!
After our good deed, we had a quick game of rock, paper, scissors (squat, plank, sprint) and then ran back for a cool beverage at the pub!

Clearing up the Car Park

We're heading back to Upper Norwood Library Hub! Their car park out the back requires some attention apparently. Exact details will be posted here nearer to the time but it'll be a fun physical task supporting this fab pillar of the community!
It's about a 2km run and we'll have some fitness exercises thrown in. ๐ช
Please bring gardening gloves if you have them (I have a few spare pairs).
Hope you can make it!

๐โโ๏ธ Whether you're new to running or a seasoned pro, you are welcome at GG Bromley! We jog to a local non-profit organisation and support them with a physical task.
๐ Every Tuesday we meet at the Bridge House pub in Penge. There's a space to leave coats and bags.
๐ We run at 7pm but turn up any time from 6:45 for a pre-run chat. After doing our good deed we run back to base for 8:30. Sometimes we stick around for a drink!
๐งค Gardening gloves can be useful for outdoor tasks.

Gardening fun at Cator Park
Me and Linda helped the Friends of Cator Park with digging up one of the flower beds to put in some new plants, getting rid of the weeds and putting some mulch down, Linda also helped with pruning the rose bushes! It was quite the workout!

Group Run // Helping out at Cator Park

This week's task will be at the delightful Cator Park. We often help the Friends of Cator and Alexandra parks out with edging paths, planting trees and weeding and we'll be given a nice green task to blitz in 30 minutes.
It's about a 2km run and we'll have some fitness exercises thrown in.
Please bring gardening gloves if you have them (I have a few spare pairs).
Hope you can make it!

Bin There, Dunk That
Seven Superstars met for a lovely evening's run, a good deed for the wonderful Ignition Brewery and we even squeezed in some circuits!
BREW GOOD, GET FIT
First up, we met at The Bridge House, named our favourite cheese (I think we covered every single type?!) and then had a warm up in the park, thoroughly wearing ourselves out before our run...
It was a 2km jog to Ignition Brewery - they're a non-profit brewery providing training and employment for people with learning disabilities - and the car park out the back is where they host a monthly market (selling goods from some other fab social enterprises too!). It was a bit of a mess, with pallets, wardrobe panels and overgrown plants that needed to be binned.
We met Richard (who incidentally went on one of the first ever GoodGym runs in Tower Hamlets! ๐คฏ) who showed us our tasks:
๐ช Stephen and Alex got to work destroying some pallets pronto, employing some sawing and brute force.
๐จ Carla and David were dealing mostly with some wardrobe sides and doors - thankfully they broke into bits very easily (or maybe Carla and David were just in the right mood ๐ก)
๐ฑ And Alison and Clare were handling the greenery, snipping off branches from some overgrown plants.
๐ All the waste got binned (one of the bins was only opened occasionally due to the indescribable smell...) and Richard even gave us some beer for our troubles! ๐ป
SMASHED IT! (literally.)
We went back via Alexandra Rec, partly to view some of our tree planting exploits, but mostly for a ferocious circuits session.
We had a little carousel of burpees, bicycle crunches, squat jumps and russian twists which the team navigated with aplomb ๐ and then we headed back.
Nice one gang!

Join a gardening session at Cator Park

The Friends of Cator Park and Alexandra Recreation Ground have regular gardening sessions most Saturday mornings where they look after the parks for use by the general public.
Millie and the team are a super lovely bunch and they always appreciate some hard-working GoodGym hands to help with planting, weeding and watering etc.
Arrive at 10am by the bridge (there's a big container next to it) and please bring your own gardening gloves. Feel free to stay as long as you can/want ๐ The Friends group finish at 12.

Tetris bed removal
Clare and I ran a short distance to Penge to remove a bed and mattresses for an older gentleman - executed using the Tetris technique to get it out of the door frames!

Clearing up the car park at Ignition Brewery

This week we're heading to Ignition, a fab brewery and taproom which provides training and employment to people with learning disabilities to brew, serve and deliver great beer!
There's a bit of junk in their car park which needs breaking down and sticking in the bins. We'll be equipped with saws and (carefully) dismantle whatever they have waiting for us.
It should be a fun one - please bring gardening gloves if you can (I have a few spare pairs).

Hangers & Dash
We started off discussing the awkward time of GoodGym and when the best time to have dinner is. We didn't conclude anything really, but it sounded like some of us were going to have a delicious dinner post-run...
We did a quick warm up in the park, learnt my weird anacronym SSSKAB (slightly shorter steps, knees (up), arms, balloon) which hopefully helped us power up the hills on the way to the St Christopher's Hospice charity shop on Cystal Palace Triangle.
Teresa gave us a few tasks:
๐งฝ Alex and Rebecca were wiping the shelves and hoovering the floor.
๐จ Kate was on steaming duty with Clare who was also...
๐ Tagging clothes with me!
In no time at all we were done and set sail down the hill and back to base.
5k in the bag and a good deed for a lovely local hospice โ
Great stuff gang!
