Spread the love!

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

14 Westminster GoodGymers ran 7k to make food for the homeless with One Big Family- helping the homeless charity in Victoria.

A great turn out this evening, awesome timing to celebrate Rhys 50th GoodGym GoodDeed!!

Rolling South weaving our way through the Super Central London back streets and past many tourists attractions we made our way to the Ebury Estate!

Meeting the team we split into two groups of sandwich makers, the Jammy bunch and the cheese tastics!!

Two perfectly formed and well oiled production lines of butters, fillers and bagers made light work of the 10 loaves of bread.

With everything bagged up and ready to be given out tonight on the Wednesday night food run around Victoria to the areas homeless community. It was time to rewarm ourselves up now the sun had gone so we picked up the pace on the run back to base!!

Throwing in a quick body weight conditioning burst outside Liz’s house and burst of pace up the Green Park drag we were soon back with a great group run complete!

Next week we need your help on the Special Easter treat Homeless good run!! Where we bring along some Easter treats to give out to Westminster’s homeless community!! Be great to have you along!!

Having bags of fun wearing ourselves out

Greenwich Report written by Greenwich runner

On a misty Saturday morning, brave GoodGym Greenwich runners from across the borough made their way to Crisis' storage unit in Charlton. Kevin from Crisis explained to us how they recently acquired a brand new warehouse space and now needed to move the items they were storing. As we knew from a previous mission here, Crisis was using this space to store all of their seasonal clothing for their charity shops, and they had loads of it.

Once the big empty lorry had showed up, we could start with our big clear-out. Efficient as we are, we quickly organized ourselves in a locker-emptying team, a cart-wheeling one (not literally!) and a lorry-loading one, and after a couple of runs we had the process down to an accuracy of seconds! As time went on, the lorry started to fill up quickly, but the storage locker didn't seem to emptying at the same rate...

Soon we were stuffing the last nooks and crannies of the truck. We were exercising all our upper-body muscles as there just wasn't enough room to lift the carts anymore, so had to resort to just throwing the bags up. Some brave runners even showed off their mountaineering skills by climbing the mountain of bags to squeeze them in at the top.

The lorry loaded and on its way to the warehouse, we decided we weren't done yet and collected the remaining bags from storage and made a nice big pile out of them outside, ready for the next transport.

After all that work, we each went our own way, with our small group having a lovely sunny run back to Woolwich along the Thames Path.

Storage Wars

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

19 GoodGymers ran 7.5k to help One Big Family helping the homeless charity in Victoria.

Great to have you all along this evening for a fun filled Wednesday run in Westminster!

Weaving a steady 3.5 route South through the bustle of Central London life down to the Ebury Estate in Victoria.

Meeting Mike who set us up with our job for the evening. With more and more being asked of the small Charity, resources are coming in and going out at a crazy rate!

All the clothing we sorted 4 short weeks ago that filled a storage shed have been donated to Westminster’s homeless and vulnerable. It was time for the next influx on donations to come in. But before we could do that space was needed!!

With a flat on the Estate being vacated on Saturday the contents are being donated to the charity so they can give to needing individuals and families.

We had to play Tetris wars cramming 3 storage sheds into 2! Piling boxes and boxes of nappies, bedding, tables and anything else needed while separating the baby food out to be taken to a family day centre on Friday.

35 minutes flashed by and we had successfully completed the task! Allowing vital help to be given in terms of donations to Westminster’s most in need. And clearing the decks so that the now 4 times a week Homeless food run in Victoria to take place smoothly.

Adding a bit of pace into the run on the way back we zipped up to Buckingham Palace before summoning our efforts for speedy dash up the Green Park drag!

Thanks for all your hard work, see you next week for our trip to the Canal and River Trust to maintain our adopted piece of Little Venice Canal.

Have a great week!

Joel
