Goodgym 9 do the Tardis 10

Bristol Report written by Alice Dalrymple

Today is a very special day. Not only is it the Wimbledon men's final but it is also the inaugural TARDIS 10 event in Bristol.

9 Goodgymers battled it out to be the first to reach the tardis whilst others were battling a ridiculous dalek costume that they wore thinking everyone would go all out on costume effort..! ahem

Richard Breakspear came 1st winning him a slightly malfunctioned sonic screw driver and Mary Caudle won the prize for best costume for her awesome homemade tardis t-shirt. She won a tardis scarf which was extremely weather appropriate.

Once all runners arrived back they were presented with bespoke medals and a slice of cake crowned the most chocolatey chocolate cake Laura has ever eaten. Luckily everyone had a great time and no-one got exterminated. Watch this space for the return of this hotly anticipated race in 2020!

Thank you to everyone who came along and to Shona, Patrick and Tim for their cycle support. Also a special thanks to Richard for supporting my slightly nutty idea for the race and making it a reality.

It looks amazing! I'm gutted I couldn't make it. I'll make sure I am there in 2020! Or I might even use my time machine and do the 2019 race at somepoint in the next few weeks...

Andrew completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Andrew was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

A ribbon good run, thanks marshals!

Bristol Report written by Bristol runner

Whilst much of GoodGym was in Sofia, GoodGym Bristol wanted to do something a little different for a community mission, and support the wider Bristol running community, the GoodGym community and Sean of GoodGym York's excellent concept of the Ribbon run.

So we decided to setup and marshal an ribbon route, and invite everyone to come and run it with a Facebook event setup and we waited to see who would come.

We managed to get two non-GoodGymers to come and even John from GoodGym Camden to come across for the day. It was great to see you all.

As for the marshals, you were all brilliant and everyone managed to get around the course setting the impressive ribbon (in 2D as Alice termed it) around the Downs, and then we swapped runners and marshals, for a marshals run, so everyone could earn their medal and good deed. It was also nice to met Meg on her first GoodGym deed and Jenny on her first Saturday Good Deed, so welcome to Saturdays.

After all the running and marshalling we retired to the Cafe, and reflected on a challenge achieve, and also on how nice the Downs were, with a number of people deciding to run there more often, and explore it more as opposed to just completing a lap of the outside.

A great day for the Bristol 10k

Bristol Report written by Bristol runner

On a lovely day we gathered for the Bristol 10k.

First a photo in Queen Square with everyone and Mair.

We headed to the start line soon(ish) after nine.

Then off we all went with energy and intent.

The GG marshals were a treat and some of us got a sweet (nice Tutu Emma!)

There were lots of personal bests but not all in GG vests... Andy (cough).

Perfect.

Jack's not Station-ary - he likes to mauve it mauve it

Bristol Report written by Shona Buchanan

It was brilliant to have Lauren and Phil join us for their first GoodGym Bristol run tonight! It was a big one, as Jack hit his 100th Good Deed - massive well done Jack! And what better way to celebrate it than with two of GG Bristol's favourite tasks, painting and Emmaus!

Emmaus-ing

Alice led the first group to meet Xanne at Emmaus. The group were set to work with various tasks. Some of them were on warehouse sorting which, as usual, may have ended up more of a warehouse-wide treasure hunt for the best hat (photo evidence shows Maria and Richard as key contestants). The rest of the group were outside taking apart unusable furniture to be recycled. They got to work with wood chopping, foam removing and more, making a great dent in the task.

A mauve-ing task

The rest of us headed to The Station, where two of our GoodGymers work (life outside GoodGym?!). We were met by our Taskforce member and the charity's Events Manager, Alice. She explained that the Creative Youth Network, based at The Station, are sprucing up their outdoor area for summer and the first way to do this was to repaint all of the picnic benches (you guessed it) mauve.

Through the Clo hole

While some had creative methods of avoiding getting paint on them (I'm looking at you, Shreena's tights over leggings), others went all in for the purple body-paint (Chris and Tom...). Despite this, the group still managed to get a large amount on the benches themselves and within 45 minutes they had painted the first coat on all of the benches left for us. Not forgetting that most of the group also managed a fitness blast in our sub-in, sub-out system. Thanks for having us Alice!

We jogged (/sprinted the Strava segment) the short route back and then got to watch Jack masterfully put on the Centurion outfit and indulge us with three different types of cake. What a baking comeback! We will be expecting a lot more from where that came from now...
