Re- cycling to save our health and environment.

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

Thank you to all those Goodgym members who looked to support Cycle day. Cycling is so good in so many ways. It helps your pocket, your health and your local environment. It also helps us to reduce our reliance on petrochemicals.

I see the grass beneath me I smell the winter sky And think to myself Don't pass me by

You don’t know what tomorrow holds. You don’t know how many more of these moments you’ll get. So grab them while they are here. Look while you can. Drink them in while you can. Don’t let the stillness pass you by.

Re- Cycling the rubbish of Barnet

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

A Few Goodgym Members came together to help support cycling and the Cycle Lane support day at East Finchley. We also looked to do a little litter picking in Gleblands, an open space behind the Lido leisure centre in Barnet. We gathered at the Coffee bank (cafe) where we robbed them of some delicious cake and coffee. Thank you Sandra for her discount on food and drink for all cyclist that braved the rain on the 19th. ( also to the Phoenix cinema , the old white Lion and Cherry tree cafe sorry we didn’t make it to you) We cycled to Gleblands and started litter picking in pairs. (Welcome to Charlotte on her first community mission) So much litter! In particular the plastic McDonald’s sauce containers a nightmare to pick up! After about 40 minutes we headed back down the cycle lane for a social at the Bald faced stag. Thanks to Louise (manager) for her generous support. Great food and company. Thanks for coming and doing some good!

Goodgym leaflet out!

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

A magnificent seven Goodgym members gathered at the Phoenix cinema to run and have some fun. We were going to deliver flyers for the cinema but unfortunately due to budget restrictions they didn’t have enough stock. ( Phoenix Cinema is held in trust and relies on local support) we decided to deliver our own GoodGym leaflets to local neighbours but before that we went on a 5 km run along the course of the Mutton Brook. It was a relatively dry mild run except for the odd puddle. On returning some of us went into the cinema for a delicious hot chocolate and somewhat bizarrely, but appropriately, a bag of popcorn. thanks for coming, running and hopefully recruiting some new members with our leaflet drop.

Den dismantling

Barnet Report written by Beth Sawyer

Three runners met at the Phoenix Cinema and ran to Coldfall Woods, where we were joined by several others. The task owner, Linda, explained that our job was to dismantle some dens and use the logs and branches from them to restore the edging around the paths. Not only would this stop people from creating new paths through vulnerable bits of woodland that need protecting, it also provides a habitat for insects - which in turn will attract more birds and other wildlife to the wood.

We worked quickly in the fading light and managed several dens.

Huge apologies again to those we didn't manage to find in the woods. I'm sorry for your wasted evening - and also sorry for us that we missed out on your company and help with the task.
