Why we are supporting The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS)

The Active Wellbeing Society is a community benefit society established to enable people and communities to get active together. They are jointly working with partner organisations across the city to support those most in need during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

They have established the #Brumtogether movement in response to the Coronavirus crisis. #BrumTogether is a network of more than 60 partner organisations working together to provide those most in need with essential support and services. This involves co-ordinating deliveries of food parcels, hot meals, hygiene products, baby supplies and children’s activity packs to families.

A lot has been achieved so far with over 13,000 food parcels being delivered, over 4000 hot meals and 321 bulk orders provided to other organisations that have led to a further 7000 weekly deliveries.

Our GoodGym members have been helping to deliver food parcels around the city, and there may also be a need for volunteers to help sort food in their distribution hubs around the city.

Action is required to ensure those who are vulnerable and in need are supported by individuals and communities. The coronavirus is already impacting those with underlying health conditions. Like every crisis, working class-families and people on low-incomes are also likely to suffer the most.

How to get involved

If you want to join in with their efforts to support vulnerable communities during the crisis, sign up here and you will be contacted to be added to their list of volunteers. Alternatively you can email support@theaws.org or call 0121 728 7030 during office hours.

If you know a Birmingham resident who is self-isolating or otherwise in need, get them to fill in their details or sign up using their details if you have them and they are not able to.

Once you've got involved and been along to help you can log your good deed straight from this page and even tag any other GoodGym members if they were there too.

You can contact johnhayes@goodgym.org if you have any questions about getting involved.
