What are the chances of GoodGym missing the ball? Pretty remote!

On a bright summer morning, a group of four GoodGym-ers met opposite the Queen Elizabeth Hospital once again to help out the Friends of Woolwich Common, who organise monthly community litter picks to keep this beautiful space looking tidy.

As usual FoWC kindly supplied us with everything we needed for the task: bin bags, bin bag holders and litter pickers. We headed towards the hospital first and unfortunately there was an awful lot of litter lying around! Discarded face masks, food packaging, a wide range of beverage containers, and even a football! By the time 20 minutes had passed we had already filled up four whole bin bags, which I think must be a Woolwich Common record!

After this we headed further east, where there were several more litter hot spots near the funfair and the car park. By the end of the hour we had managed to fill up a further two bin bags. We were also very surprised to find not one, but two remote controls - hopefully no-one in the Woolwich area now has a television stuck on one channel!

Finally, with the music from the fair ringing in our ears, we headed back to the meeting point to tie up our bin bags and return our borrowed kit. It was really lovely to see how much cleaner the common looked by the time we had finished today, so well done to everyone!

Note: This is a recurring task on the last Sunday of every month at 11am, so do come along if you are free the next time around!
