I signed up for two volunteer roles today, turning up early to set up the course. This gave me the exercise I would miss out for the morning, as I’m taking a rest in anticipation of marathon training in the new year. To make sure I rested, I had also signed up to give out finish tokens. As the runners got ready to start, I realised the error of my ways as I have only ever volunteered for this when it is definitely glove weather, and it is impossible to grab the tokens with gloves on. So, waiting an hour for the tail walkers to come in proved to be a real endurance. But a very worthwhile one as I warmed my icicle fingers in the car on the way home. I’m pictured with fellow volunteer and Handsworth runner, Kanchan, who has just signed up for Goodgym. Hopefully this will be the first of many good deeds as she braved the cold as a marshal out on the windy course.
