We will be running approximately 4km in total; to Bristol Street Tunnel and back, to help spruce it up in preparation for Heritage Open Days on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September.

If you didn't already know, exciting things are happening in Swindon's much loved Railway Village. A five-year plan to revitalise the area has been created with Historic England who have declared it a Heritage Action Zone. They have provided funding and support to:

  • Enhance key Historic buildings and spaces (Health Hydro, Carriage Works, the Cricketers, GWR Park and the Mechanics Institution)

  • Improve public spaces and footpaths which form the setting for the historic buildings

  • Raise awareness of Swindon's Railway Heritage and promote the area as a place of interest

The Heritage Action Zone outcomes are being boosted by Town Deal Funding from Central Government which will:

  • Refurbish the Health Hydro to create a major leisure and cultural attraction to draw in visitors to Swindon Town Centre

  • Deliver the next phase of the Carriage Works for use by business and educational organisations

  • Enhance Station Road and the Bristol Street and Sheppard Street tunnels to improve connectivity and encourage more pedestrian and cycle movements within the town centre

In September many of the historic buildings in the Railway Village will be open to the public for Heritage Open Days. In readiness for this event we have been asked to help give the Railway Village a bit of a spring clean to ensure it is looking its best for potential visitors, so please get involved and help us polish up Swindon's 'Jewel in the Crown'!

We will be meeting at 6pm just outside Tesco Extra*; just look out for us in the red and black GoodGym tops! After the task, we may be able to fit in a short exercise session before heading back to Tesco Extra.

Please note: This Group Run is Walkable, meaning that there will be one group of Walkers leaving Tesco Extra just after 6pm (led by a Task Force Member) and a second group of Runners leaving Tesco Extra at around 6:10pm (led by a Run Leader). Please also be aware that GoodGym runs are suitable for runners of all abilities. All our runs are backmarked and we never leave anyone behind.

*Please look out for our Run Leader, Emma who will meet you all to the right hand side of the front entrance at Tesco Extra.

Please note that for the time being, our Group Runs will start in various outdoor locations meaning that lockers, toilets and refreshment facilities may not be available before and after the Group Run. We hope that this will change in the future and that at some point soon we can return to a regular meeting point with facilities. For the meantime let's just enjoy meeting up again - we have a lot to catch up on 😊

Walkable

You will be able to join a group walking to the task if you'd prefer not to run.

4km total distance

Remember that we run/walk to and from the task, so you'll only be running/walking for half this distance in one go.

This is a standard GoodGym group run. If you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact us.
