There’s a mural in Deptford, painted by local residents way back when. It inspired Mark Knopfler’s writing the ‘Love over Gold’ album. Everything is minded to inspire, even though it’s all a bit grubby and chaotic. Medical centres call themselves things like Kingfisher and Creekside, flats masquerade as mansions, streets are even called ‘Friendly Street’ and parks are named after local educators or animal activists. I met a kind couple of long residing locals to pick up prescriptions and drop their samples off. Both the people at the pharmacy and those at the doctors knew Mr & Mrs P and were cheery and pleased to hear they were well. All signs of a strong community and a place for GoodGym to slot in.
