The stage is set, once and choral

It’s another musical mission, which means it’s time for another round of Spot the Music Puns!

We were Bach to help the Kingston Choral Society to set up for their concert this evening, and there were high expectations for a pun-filled report. So apologies in advance... (and apart from Bach, I will endeavour to not repeat any previously used puns!)

Let’s take it from the top

Gill brevely gave us the score of how to set up the stage and we duly took note.

Overture us: The first movement

We tried to figure out which railing corresponded with which letter on the instructions, looking for which had the double bar lines for interlocking, and which were just regular single bar lines. All that confusion, only to realise that the letters were written on the railings...

After this, Gill broke the news that the rail arrangement wouldn’t follow the sequence of a scale or an arpeggio, but rather the catchy melody of ACBCBDCDBCA. Or something like that. We slotted together the railing-stage jigsaw, following Gill's code of conduct, and somehow managing to stave off any major mistakes.

Spreadsheet Romance: The second movement

With the railings all in place, we limbered up for the second movement: putting out 92 chairs. Yes, 92.

To Samia’s delight, this section came with a spreadsheet. A SPREADSHEET!!!! And, after studying it in detail, Samia may have been heard saying “I want to find the person that created this and marry them”. It’s the simple things in life for some...

We worked out the cymbals and cracked da coda: bassically we needed to put rows of plastic blue foldable chairs out, alto we had to remember to leave the aisle free and follow the chair allocation plan.

More upbeat after admiring the spreadsheet, we picked up the tempo and found a good rhythm, setting out the chairs in unison. One side was more dominant with seven(ths), the other lined with slightly diminished 6-seater rows, but the nifty spreadsheet ensured that 92 chairs were set out in the most orderly fashion. There was the minor setback of needing to switch some chairs that didn’t have the protective caps on and would scratch the floor with others, but all in all we kept out of treble. A dynamic team, we worked perfect harmony, and within a matter of minuets...
