Another productive Monday evening at our local Community Allotment.

A big hello to Claire, who joined us for her first GoodGym session! And who better to welcome Claire to the allotment than Meggie? Green-fingered Meggie knows her way around the beds and shed better than anyone else having been at every allotment mission since lock-down.

Claire and Meggie also met Brian from the Men in Sheds, a group who aim to combat loneliness and who share the allotment space with the gardeners. The three of them gave the plants a lovely big drink and then began sorting out the water butts.

They topped up the butts at the far end of the shed but found that the biggest butt nearest the tap had a leak. No one likes a big leaky butt, so Brian is going to fix it but he needs it emptied first. So Meggie set to work using the hose and watering cans to drain the water into an area where...

Late arrivals Amy and Lara were weeding and digging and needed some water to help loosen some pretty solid ground. Both runners had done bed-time with little ones at home and then rushed out for flower-bed-time at the allotment. They were working on an area that GoodGym dug over at our launch event in February, but which had grown over with grass and weeds during lock-down. The plan is for this area to be planted with flowers to become a sensory garden. We made some progress, but there is more work to be done, so Tara, Sut and Meggie can look forward to that this Thursday evening.

Meanwhile Claire was also digging for victory behind the shed. She made a great start on a hole for the walnut tree, which has outgrown its pot and is ready for a proper patch of its own.

As ever this evening it was great to see the plants thriving and to know that GoodGym have made a significant contribution to this. well done to all runners who have helped on this project this year.
