10 GoodGym heroes, many on their second mission of the day (superheroes!), planted out 44 plants donated by Petersham Nursery and also found time for some weeding, tidying and marking out the location for an ‘insect hotel’.

The Petersham Nurseries recently donated over 130 plants to help us develop our riverside plot. Today was the first of several Community ‘Petersham Plant Planting’ Missions and we succeeded in integrating all these into the flowerbed: 2 Spiraea Snowbound 5 Heathers Alluna white 12 Astibe Snowsprite 16 Geranium Maccofhizum 5 Agastache Blue Fortune 1 Pineaplle Sage 2 thyme pink ripple 2 marjoram compact 1 oregano county cream 1 lavender hidcote 1 Pennesetum 1 carex

As we’ve now had the green light from Richmond upon Thames Council Parks Department for our proposed planting scheme (which includes at it’s centre ‘The Three Pigeons Insect Hotel’) we now have a clearer idea of the overall design and look that we are working to achieve. Towards this end, we also weeded an area in the centre of the plot where the Bug Hotel will be located, and used bamboo canes to mark the edges of the hotel and also the triangular area around it that will have a planting of dwarf trees and myrtle .

A huge ‘Thank You’ to Avril at The Petersham Nurseries, a magical place to visit: https://petershamnurseries.com

And three cheers for GoodGym runners Alex, Sam, Lorna, David, Jack, Lenka, Oliver, JP, Harry and Anita who all gave up part of their Saturday to help out.

There will be many more Three Pigeon Plot Community Missions over the coming months starting with another planting session on Saturday 6 February (to be scheduled for early afternoon to avoid a clash with the Ham Lands Butterfly task). Also look out for the listing of the Richmond Group Run on Monday 23 March 2020.
