Three intrepid Bristol vehicles headed A Long Way north in the heatwave that we've all now forgotten. Cars were tightly packed, mainly, it turned out, with birthday cake to celebrate Melanie's new parkrun age category, VW45-49. It was a highly scientific experiment that proved, beyond any doubt, that there is no such thing as too much chocolate cake.

A tent village appeared in the middle of the camping field (for some reason, everyone else had stayed on the possibly flatter edges that were definitely further from the overhead power lines. The loo/shower block was found to be surprisingly brilliant, the on-site ice-cream parlour the best thing since sliced bread until we found the pygmy goats and their chickens. Who knew goats kept chickens?

Two nights meant two different pubs for food (Emma and Charlie were staying at the closer pub), a Saturday presented an obvious parkrun opportunity and Bakewell meant not only a new parkrun, but an opportunity to be joined by GoodGym Sheffield peeps and all be a bit tart-y. Except for Darren, who went pork pie-eyed instead. Much time was spent waiting for the whisky shop to open, and Alie to then make her selection, all whilst #parkrunfresh. And the Bristol Ultimate frisbee team was born, though Emma's Ashton Court found minion disc thing proved a lot more unpredictable in flight.

Oh, and there was also a running event on Sunday - the Peak Skyline Ultra (30 miles) and half ultra (14.5 miles) with a few ups and downs. Beautiful scenery, the downs included Matt's first ever DNF when he was taken poorly despite perfect preparations and the support team missing all the runners. The ups included top finishes for Bristol and Sheffield (ex-Bristol) GoodGymmers, the support team managing to get all the tents dry before packing them down and even more chocolate cake.

We have unfinished business here and a return trip is planned, possibly not on the race weekend with us recreating the half-ultra as a mega social run. With a lot of chocolate cake and ice-cream.
