Mission

So far no good

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.

Today, Rupesh and I had one job to move two sofas but, alas it was too big to handle and we had to call it a day after two hours of pivoting, repivoting, lifting and forcing. But we have left clear suggestions for how to remove the sofa (and its bigger sofa sibling) next time and left Ms F one stage closer to creating space for her new wheelchair.

Today was a reminder that no two GoodGym missions are the same! I've done sofa tasks in less than ten minutes before.

I've also watched THAT episode of Friends many times so thought nothing of today.

Alas the sofa would not leave the building! We even used my trusty pocketknife to remove some of the foam and yanked off some of the wood, but it simply was not possible despite all our pivoting and force.

Two hours later (!) we, or more accurately Rupesh, reluctantly gave Ms F the disappointing news that we couldn't take the sofa away. We returned it to its original place and also realised the second sofa was even bigger! 😮

We have no idea how the sofas made it in - maybe experts have extra tools and techniques but we said we'd pass on our recommendations to GoodGym, the OT and next helpers.

We certainly got our mental and physical workout but felt sorry we couldn't finish the job today.

We consoled ourselves with a coffee, bite to eat and catch up outside a local café then went out separate ways. One last laugh was imagining us taking the partially hacked sofa back for a refund though!

Well done Patrick and Rupesh for trying so hard to get this mission completed! Sounds like hard work and your certainly went above and beyond what was expected. We will have further conversations with the referrer to see if we can help out.
