Drawer me like one of your French bureaus, Jack

Tonight I met up with JP for a mission in Hounslow for Mrs A.

Mrs A is currently in hospital and her family hopes to have her home soon. To make this happen, they need a hospital bed to be installed, which first needs some space to be made for it. GoodGym were asked if we could help with this.

Although I'd met JP at another GoodGym task, this was my first mission with him. I think I've been missing out on a trick however, as he turned up with both chocolate and a willingness to share. Automatic mission besties right there 😉

We were met at Mrs A's by her daughter, who kindly offered us further refreshments and the friendship of a family dog that felt that affection was only valid if shouted from the mountain tops. After a few minutes of loud adoration, JP and I started work.

We had two bits of furniture to remove from Mrs A's home: A double bed (with two mattresses - I assume the extra one was for luck) and a dressing table/bureau*. Both of these were located in an upstairs bedroom.

We started with the bed. After we'd taken the mattresses down the stairs and out, JP expertly identified and applied the necessary wrench for dismantling the legs and headboard from the frame. I made the usual recommendations for angling the frame around various corners of the landing and stairwell, and it was outside in a jiffy.

Next came the bureau. After removing the drawers (and noting the newspaper lining from 1962!), it took mere minutes to mosey it on down the stairs. It took considerably longer, however, to attempt to put the drawers back into the bureau: After a valiant effort and definitely no swear words, JP eventually gave up on inserting the last drawer and left it out on its lonesome.

Mrs A's daughter was very grateful for our 30 minutes of help, and we spent a few minutes chatting about both Mrs A and how great we are before eventually saying goodbye.
