Two GoodGym members joined other members of the community to meet up with the scientists from Earthwatch. We meet Dr Jacqueline Eales, Eve and Anya who explained and demonstrated some of the measurement techniques employed by the Tiny Forest team. It's quite straightforward using a mobile to record the data generated. With so many Tiny Forest being planted it's important that some of us are able to input these measurements and help correlate all the data in the future. One of the most important measurements is recording the level of carbon captured by the various trees planted. This is a simple process of Recording the tree type, measuring the height of the tree and it's girth 10 cm above the soil. We also looked at soil drainage and type with the prospect of seeing the soil improve over the years as the biodiversity increases and more nutrients are captured within the soil. If you're interested in getting involved in helping please look out for other community missions in the future. Surveys to be carried out include:

Butterfly times count Butterfly species list Ground dwellers Pollinators time to count Carbon capture Thermal comfort Flood management infiltration rate and moisture Flood management compaction colour and texture
