11 of us revisited Tenantry Down Road and its notorious fly tipping site including new recruit Diego all the way from Northern Spain. Holà Diego. Our council contact Gary split us into 3 groups with the aim of cutting back some of the excess vegetation at the top of the road and raking back leaves and earth to reveal some of the more hidden and historical delights that have been left here by people in their infinite wisdom. We came up with the moniker "rubbish archaeologists"...not bad purveyors of the science you understand...rather ones who dig up detritus and awfulness. Amongst our finds today were plastic drainpipes, more tyres, an old mattress, more builders rubble, two chairs and the usual array of plastic and wood. It still amazes this writer, even on his 100th task, that people resort to the wanton destruction of our local environment. However, as I sit here writing this in the prescence of my father on his 87th birthday who's taking a nap after cake and wine, I firmly believe that we, the good ones, outnumber those who are lazy, can't be bothered and have no regard for the planet and our green spaces. I left the task today with my heart full of hope, incredibly grateful for Goodgym and looking forward to my next 100 tasks in rain or shine.
