This morning, 6 Goodgymers headed to Ouseburn Valley to take on the task of clearing/widening a path to help allow for social distancing.

As usual, we met just beside Ouseburn farm, where we all signed in and got briefed on this morning’s task. Dave then told us some more about the history of the valley, specifically about the old railway that was used to bring freight between the Quayside and Ouseburn. We also saw some very excited sheep being moved from the farm to a new field!

After grabbing our path clearing tools we walked to ‘the stairway to nowhere’. At the top of the stairs was our mission- a very narrow, overgrown path just asking to be cleared!

We spread out along the path and set to work, trimming back brambles and other vegetation that blocked the path. Although it was a cool morning, we soon warmed up thanks to our ferocious path clearing!

When we were almost finished a path user walked by and exclaimed ‘it’s passable!’, proving our efforts this morning were worthwhile! 😊

Well done everyone on a great effort this morning!
