Some hardy northern GoodGymers braved the ice and snow this evening to rid the streets of rubbish. We had arranged to meet with some other Barnsley litterpicking folks, however the winter lurgy is doing it's rounds and has afflicted them so they couldn't join us. They did however kindly advise us on some areas and streets to tackle.

Before we started the litterpick we thought we'd get a selfie. Though, upon positioning the phone and making sure we were in focus, a protesting voice was heard... a member of the public on the other side of the phone thought we were taking a picture of them even though we were posing for the camera facing the opposite way. All was well though and we had a laugh about the misunderstanding with them.

One for the road

We were tasked with ridding the roads of rubbish on Dodworth Rd and up Farrar St. We made our way along the dark streets, each goodgymer picking a side of the street to work- plogging is a game of two halves don't ya know? Whilst working these allocated streets we occasionally went off on a tangent and ventured down some offshoots. On our rounds we delved into bushes rife with cans, picked frozen wrappers from between parked cars, prized up packets from beneath ice sheets and dug up detritus from the frostbitten verdant recreational areas. After filling 2 purple bags full of litter we headed back down the road to Sparrow Park. Here we did a quick pick in the park before heading off for a sit-down... we were off to do some long wallsits on a nearby floodlit wall!

After our relaxing sit-down, we tied up our bags and left them by a street bin for later collection. We then headed up the steps to glasshouse and had a full stretch off at the top.

Some notable items picked up tonight were a pair of frozen-solid boxer shorts and a huge armchair cushion; some people, it seems, are too 'comfortable' discarding unwanted items on the streets!
