Bexley

Community mission

Someone has been adding soil to my flower beds... the plot thickens.

6 GoodGymers made their way to help their local community in Bexley.

Getting their fitness in early, several GoodGymers, along with Poppy 🐾, started the morning at Bexley parkrun in Danson Park.

Then we headed across to the other side of the park where, joined by more GG-ers, we were back at one of our regular gigs helping the dedicated and award-winning volunteers of the Friends of the Old English Garden.

Our task was to help prepare some flower beds in readiness for planting a display for the Queens Jubilee next spring and summer.

At each flower bed we loosened the soil, dug it out, mixed in homemade fertiliser to enrich it, then shovelled the earth back into the plot.

We π˜₯𝘢𝘨 deep and 𝘴𝘱𝘒π˜₯𝘦 good progress until, in contrast to the weather 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘬cast, the heavens opened, quickly making the ground - and us - too wet to get the job finished.

Most of the GoodGymers headed home but a couple stayed a little longer to help clean and put away the gardening tools, rewarded with a warming cup of tea and delicious rock cakes.

Thank you for having us and see you on 20th November for our next installment.
