Five of us helped Brunswick to clear one of their compost heaps this morning. Laura and Ste had to start on top of the heap to take off the plants, fruit and sticks that hadn't composted. They quickly discovered that they were standing in heap full of thousands of woodlice. Leanne, Barbara and Lindsay fetched barrows to transport the ripe compost. We then took it in turns to dig and barrow the compost onto the beds. The birds were thrilled about the woodlice and came quite close to us when we were emptying the barrows. The task went much quicker when we had shovels and spades instead of forks (Lindsay helpfully explained the difference between a shovel and a spade.)
