Sophie, Georgeta, Juli, Nick and Kelley all met at Ockwells car park just before lunchtime and walked across to little Thrift Wood to meet Alastair and Jason from the wildlife centre who we’ve helped with lots of tasks before, so they know us well now! We were briefed by Jason on why there was a need to protect the stunning bluebells of this ancient woodland and encourage visitors to use the paths. There was a huge mountain of wood chippings that smelt like fresh pine! We set to work with shovels, wheelbarrows and rakes to transport the chippings to the path and then rake them neatly over some older bark. It was a great upper body workout all around in a beautiful setting. We were even treated to a sighting of deers who didn’t seem too phased by us! You could say they had no I-deer we were even there! The second session was due to commence shortly after ours and we managed to cover about a third of the path which we felt was a valiant effort! Huge kudos to Kelley who signed up for both sessions!
