3 GoodGym'ers went to a community centre in Walsall to help clear a garden space for The Mind Kind Projects / Recovery Union.

The garden will provide an area for children to use in the summer holidays and also act as a community hub in this deprived area of Walsall, with some exciting projects planned.

We focused on the garden area today and there was lots to do. We started with shoveling coal into wheelbarrows and taking this to the skip which had been arranged. There was then a lot of rubbish and weeds, as shown in the pictures, that had accumulated and needed sorting and throwing in the skip.

For the gardening, Tousif and John showed 'shear' skill with their use of garden tools.

Over the course of the time we were there, we managed to completely fill the skip, although I forgot the get a photo of the full skip! We do have a few cuts and grazes as momentos though. After filling the skip, we continued with weeding and built up a nice, sizeable pile to fill up the next skip.

We all had a good time and it was great to meet the likes of Nik, who has been running a men's peer support group for the charity.

We will hopefully return in order to finish the gardening and have some lovely before and after photos, which reminded me of the show Ground Force (hence this week's title). There may also be further missions to help with the indoor space, so plenty to look forward to.
