It's not our usual night to have a group run, but at GoodGym, we put on "Starter Sessions" to encourage any newbies wanting a "taster" group run session. This was GoodGym Southwark's first starter session of 2022! However, there were no newbies... 😥

Instead, Sam had the delight of half his taskforce team show up in support and the eagerness to do good on a Tuesday night! Paulin and Emma met him at Old Spike Roastery after walking and cycling from home, respectively. Knowing it was a shorter run, we opted out of the warm up as it was cold and we just wanted to get going (also, Sam and Paulin weren't up to full fitness with some sprains and tight muscles). After a short 1.3k "back-street" route to TRAID, we met Laura outside the store as we were being let in.

Club TRAID: The Warehouse Project 🎵💃🏽

We often come to TRAID (every other month) to help pack up their store after a fashion season ends. Last time, we were in and out within 10-15 minutes as most of the store had been cleared. However, this time, we had it going for us with around half the store still to be cleared!

Our mission, which we chose to accept, was to get the clothes off the hangers, pack away the hangers (in terms of their type) in boxes, throw the clothes in big cages as they would be taken away to the warehouse for storage and to be used in the next winter season (or recycled...but not thrown away).

One in, one out

With some deep-house mixed in with Afro-house beating throughout the store, we started to do our tasks faster (and maybe with somelittle hips swinging too) unconsciously, of course. This was TRAID after-hours, clothes store-turned-club, which I would frequently attend!

We all started with our own section doing everything - taking off the clothes from the hangers, packing the hangers and throwing the clothes in the cage, but then we had our preference of what we liked doing. Emma and Sam enjoyed taking off clothes....from the hangers 🙄 whilst Laura and Paulin opted in to pack away the clothes and hangers. It was a system that worked in the end as we were running out of time - needing to finish off the task at 20:15 in order to get back to Old Spike Roastery by 20:30. And we managed to finish at....20:17! After taking some group photos, our walk/jog back to Old Spike Roastery got us back in time. All's well that ends well.

Thank You to all the GG-ers

It's not our usual group run night (an extra one this week), but thank you for coming out on a cold and chilly Tuesday to do good for over an hour! I appreciate the time you spend with me.

Thank You Mabel and Rodrigo

GoodGym is all about getting fit and doing good! We praise the runners/cyclists/walkers who come to get fit and help out, but we often forget about our task owner, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mabel for all that she does and for letting us help her and her team out. Behind the scenes, Rodrigo for coordinating all the Area Activators in London to setup these missions to help out at all their stores.
