For the last three years the annual GoodGym Olympics have been hosted in London. Seeing as in 2020 the other Olympics are taking place, I think it’s time for a change so I am happy to announce that the 2020 GoodGym Olympics is now officially called the GoodGym Games!!!!

As we are changing the name. I’ve been looking to see if we can change the location and am very excited to unveil the GoodGym Games Bidding Process. If you want your area to host the GoodGym Games, then step right up.

We’re looking for areas who want to host the Games in 2020 to tell us why they should be the host area, what track we could use as well as some practical details, plus ideas for an alternative relay event.

What are the GoodGym Games: Here is a brief summary of what the GoodGym Games are all about: It’s like an adult sports day with a side of village fate

Hosted on a proper running track

Events for everyone; there’s a mixture of fun and serious events

The aim to bring is different areas together

The priority is to get as many people participating as possible

It’s also a chance to bring out your competitive side with area leader boards

You can come to cheer or just to watch; a great summer day out. (more information here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xINZ7c5S-cZ05co-p_THmd2N89xZcdPi7hji30xPA3w/edit?usp=sharing )

Why Move: I’m looking to move it to bring it to a new area so more areas can take part. I really hope folks who have taken part previously will come along, but want the offer the chance for a new city to play host. Just to note that there will be a bid from London and this will be the default if the other options are not viable.

The winning bid: The winning area will get the chance to host the GoodGym Games 2020. This will involve providing a track we can use and have an opportunity to show off your area. Please note I will cover the hire cost however more details about that are in the bidding process.

What you’re signing up to and what I’m committing to I am keen for another area to host the GoodGym Games who will work in partnership with me to prepare and run the event. I will continue to lead on the organisation of the Games, however as part of the bidding process I do require the bidder to provide the names of 4 other members who I will look to help provide help in the build-up and on the day. As the main bidder I will look to you to be the main point of contact.

The bidding process So here are some helpful hints and ideas:

Track requirements:

Area with good transport links and easy access to the track

Look to use the track between 12 – 6pm and have sole use of the track.

Please note the cost should ideally be under £250, I will cover this cost.

Must be available in June or July, please state the dates that are potentially available in the form.

Must have access to changing rooms and toilets and water facilities.

Dates: Bidding opens 01st January 2020 End: Friday 31st January 2020 Announcement: Week commencing 3rd February

GoodGym Relay previous ideas: to help get the juices following here are examples of previous years Relay based on tasks on the field in the middle of the track, each relay leg involves GoodGym related tasks from potting a plant, human wheelbarrow race and even 3 to 4 people making the GG logo using their bodies. Another year was the equivalent of a human caterpillar race, where at each leg, a new runner joined the previous runners to make a larger chain of runners, embodying the phrase “no one gets left behind.”

Event Opening ideas: This is aimed at getting areas together and embraces the creative side of GoodGym runners. We have got areas to make their own flag for a flag parade at the start, making a homemade torch for a torch relay which takes place at the start. We have even created a GoodGym anthem, performed by a marching band full of GG runners, which played at the start and end of the day. I’d love to hear your ideas for an event opening feature if it was hosted in your area.
