11 GoodGymmers met in the Cookham Moor National Trust car park and quickly changed into wellies, waders and high-vis jackets. We walked around 1km to the stream where our task was to work backwards and clear out the debris, some of which was made worse by Storm Eunice.

Jordan and Ian from Maidenhead Waterways kindly equipped us with large rakes, loppers and most importantly, coffee and biscuits for our 10 minute break in the middle.

We welcomed Kate to her first ever GoodGym task - and waterway to get her thrown in at the deep end! We hope to see you at lots more tasks soon, Kate!

The team spread out along the stream; some in the water and some on the bank, occasionally "leapfrogging" each other. Those in the water were clearing out the weeds and debris with their hands, then throwing them onto the bank for the team on the bank to rake up to the top. It was very satisfying getting a large amount out the water at once, especially if it was a root. Amy and Sophie soon realised that squatting to get the root out seemed to work better than bending, which also helped with the glutes!

It started raining about a third of the way through, so the team got suitably wet, muddy and cold, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits. We were on the hunt for strange items under the water, including a slider shoe, some very large logs, a fair amount of litter and some balls which the passing by dogs were thrilled to take off our hands.

We managed to clear a really impressive stretch of the stream which eventually leads into Maidenhead town centre, which will help with the overall flow of the waterways network. So we hope that the next time you are sipping cocktails at the Coppa Club and admiring the beautifully clean and flowing waterway beneath you, you think of us and the efforts that were on display today! A great workout and team effort all around.
