I ran to take my chance to help at Birmingham Central Foodbank, as our sessions there have become quite an exclusive business given the need for social distancing. It was a busy Distribution shift, at least at first, as I joined up with two volunteers in the back room, adding more food packages as they were being given out at the front desk. I got my first taste of putting together food parcels for large families, where it is important to factor in the weight distribution across the bags, because the person collecting would have to carry them away, and there’s a lot of tins to pile in for a family. Along the way, we ran out of UHT milk at the foodbank, a reminder that donations are going to be vital during this lockdown. You can donate to Birmingham Central foodbank (and many more up and down the country) through this app: https://www.spareable.co.uk/
