I’ve helped Mrs J out with her shopping quite a few times, and this Saturday morning was no exception. A quick catch up with her daughter V, and I knew exactly what I was having to get.

Mrs J is a woman of habit, and her weekly shop from Asda doesn’t change much. Perhaps an extra loaf of bread or some loo roll one week, but otherwise the same items get put in the basket. Having done said shop so many times, I didn’t even need to look at the shopping list! Like clockwork I locked my bike and entered Asda, newspaper at the bottom, then up and down the aisles I pot-tered to potatoes and pots of prawn cocktails.

The big decision of the week was whether to go cottage or shepherds pie (cottage this week, as we had shepherds last time); and then whether to go for chocolate or fruity mousse puddings (I ended up going for both, YOLO). Wham, bam, in with the spam, and then the confectionary aisle for Mrs J’s beloved smooth milk galaxy chocolate bars. Bready for the bakery aisle, and in went a box of French fancies and a loaf of warburtons. Then I froze to the challenge of finding fish fingers, and the weekly box of choc ices.

As I went to pay, I did double check that I had everything, and impressed myself with my efficiency. And how everything was almost perfectly £20! I had nailed this!

Time to drop off, so down the hill I went (still just as scary) and knocked on Mrs J’s door. She was delighted to see me, and as a thank you she wanted to give me something. I kindly declined her offer of a banana, then for payment, but she was adamant I needed something as a thank you. I told her that making her happy by bringing her chocolate was enough of a thank you for me. Then she played the reverse psychology trick, ‘well I won’t be happy unless you take something as a thank you’, she said. So I agreed to take a bar of galaxy! You can’t argue with a 90 year old can you!? The chocolate wasn’t enough though, and as I accepted her sweet treat of thanks, Mrs J then showered me with compliments, telling me I had a lovely face, beautiful hair and a lovely figure. Mrs J, I’ll come and do your shopping again if this is how you thank me!!
