This morning, five of us met for a jolly bike ride out into the country. If that sounds like the plot of an Enid Blyton story, then hopefully you're in for fun read... :)

Our cast

The cast list is somewhat lifted from wikipedia, and may not be entirely accurate -

  • Jer is the oldest of the five. He is tall, strong and intelligent as well as caring, responsible and kind. One day he may indeed mature into an adult!

  • Maverick has a cheeky sense of humour, but is also dependable and kind in nature. He uses his wits and saves the five in many adventures but probably has the least clearly-drawn character of the group.

  • Aaron cuts his hair very short and dresses like a boy. He is headstrong and courageous by nature and, like his father, has a hot and fiery temper. Stop me if this is getting too weird!

  • Emily is the youngest in the group, but ultimately she is as brave and resourceful as the others.

  • Art is a large, brown mongrel with a long tail. He is very friendly; he is clever, affectionate and loyal to the group.

The adventure

Meyrick and Jer met on the west side of town on this beautiful sunny morning, and set off along the riverside path towards the city centre, where they met up with Art and bid him a cheery hello.

The three headed onto the Kennet and Avon path, rendezvousing with Emily and on the the George Inn at Bathampton where they waited for Aaron.

Here they helped Emily pump up her tyres, and tried to rewrite some memorial-bench poetry - but were largely thwarted in this by an inability to find a word that rhymes with "ducks"...

Anyway, moving swiftly on from that... eventually Aaron showed up and the imfamous five headed out on the canal path towards Dundas Aquaduct and on towards Monkton Combe.

Eventually, their adventure led to The Hope and Anchor - a mysterious old coaching inn in Midford - where they enjoyed lashings of ginger beer (or at least teas and coffees), before tucking into a hearty meal. All except for Aaron, who being the most stoic had brought his own banana.

Fueled and ready to continue their adventure, the five headed back into town along the Two Tunnels route, before re-emerging in the bustling metropolis and going their separate ways.

Much fun was had by all.
