Date and time
00:00 - 01:00Description of the role
- A cross between a coach role and a mission!
- Mostly picking up books at the CLS at Surbiton library annexe and delivering to specific addresses but with a friendly chat with the isolated resident!
- Service is going to be evolving over next few months but you will need to commit to weekly, fortnightly or monthly deliveries for a regular period of time . This is not a one off mission but a regular commitment. It will not be led by a runner.
- Requires an Enhanced DBS certificate (they can organise with you if you don't have one)
How it works:
- A route for delivery will be given to each volunteer detailing names, addresses and times of delivery
- Number of deliveries per volunteer will be determined by mode of transport and how many books/audiobooks they can safely transport
- Books will be delivered to doorsteps of people’s homes and collection will be from the same point. You will be given a box like this:
- Books and delivery address etc. to be returned to the CLS
- Deliveres are Monday to Friday office hours (9 to 5) only. Although can be scheduled at lunchtime to do in lunch hour if you live or work locally.
A few points to note:
- Volunteers will not be allowed to go into people’s houses
- Those of you on bicycles/walking/public transport may be given fewer deliveries as it is important not to contaminate new books with the ones being collected
- Volunteers may prefer to wear gloves when delivering
- Lone working- volunteers to phone to assure us they are safe -buddying system!
- Helpline number available for use in case of problem/concern
- Written log of the day’s visit to be kept [tick box sheet}
- May be asked to help the office from time to time
- EMPHASIS ON GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Usual practice of sanitizing hands is to be followed
- Current Social distancing guidelines must be adhered to
Who are Library users (your clients)?
- Generally older residents
- Many have sight loss to a degree
- Many have mobility issues
- A few are very socially isolated with few family/friends for support
