Alexandra Road Community GardenJoin us in July for a GG return to Alexandra Rd community garden. I've spoken to Jane at the garden, to talk about re-advertising to GG, and Jane would love us to join her and her regular volunteers.
This is a lovely little garden space run by an equally lovely group of volunteers. The land was gifted to the community by the Council c.25 years ago but numbers of locals involved with the garden have dropped dramatically with people moving on - so they really appreciate the effort and impact a handful of GG members can make. The tidy up is on the first Sunday of each month and has been a regular GG Community Mission - please come along and help.
Please bring your own gloves suitable for gardening. Tools provided, however if you have any small tools that you would be be happy to bring along e.g. small trowel for use, that would be great :)
How are you getting there?

Hello Sheffield Good Gym A small group of local residents look after a community garden in Alexandra Road, Heeley, S2 (about 3/4 of the way up the hill from Heeley City Farm on the left-hand side) on a voluntary basis. The council cut the grass and empty the dog bin but we do all the rest to keep it looking tidy and attractive. It's a lovely little space and we're very proud of it. Over the years we have raised small amounts of money through events and/or small grants to make improvements to the garden (e.g. path surfacing/creating beds and planters/buying plants/buying dog bin etc). However, for various reasons (illness, people moving away etc) there are only a small group of us active at the moment and we're finding it hard to keep on top of the weeding, digging and pruning! We've been told about the good gym initiative and wondered whether there would be any possibility of you doing a gardening session (or two!) for us? If this is a possibility then do get in touch and we can discuss it further and give you more information about different sorts of tasks that need doing etc. Kind regards Naomi Cohen and Jane Beale

There's lots of great stuff growing in the garden - as well as the weeds, there are loads of lovely plants flourishing in the Garden (wildflowers, white currants, apple and plum trees etc.). With other plants being added too - the Garden is a now site for A Bit of Earth a lovely project, where people plant edible flower seeds in community gardens across South Yorkshire.
