We shifted our Group Run Tuesday for a Wednesday run this week, to support the Mayor's Charity - A Bed Every Night which aims to provide support for people sleeping rough in Manchester.

Run Wild had their annual 24 Hour Run Against Homelessness scheduled and were aiming to run the miles between Land's End and John O'Groats.

Stockport GoodGym, combined with the mighty Trafford and our runners ran group runs and community missions, either virtually or physically (at the Manchester Met location) to submit their times to the total and clock up the hours and support.

Tony and I enjoyed a chatty Stockport night run, to add 18km to the total.

Incredible runs all around, for an incredible charity.

A Bed Every Night

Heading into it's 3rd year in 2021, the Manchester 24 Hour Run Against Homelessness is a mass participation relay run that is held over 24 hours. From 12 pm 17th November 2021 to 12 pm 18th November 2021 you can run or walk as far as you like, all in aid of raising money for the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity and their "A Bed Every Night" Scheme. This project provides a comfy bed, warm welcome, and personal support for anyone sleeping on the streets. Put simply, nobody should have to sleep rough on the streets of Manchester.

How did it start? The Manchester 24 Hour Run Against homelessness was set up in 2019 by members of Run Wild MCR, the social running club at the University of Manchester. There would be no Run Wild MCR without MCR. It’s not just the city we run through on a Tuesday night, it’s the vibrant, inclusive community of runners - and beyond - that we are proud to be a part of. We believe that our city, like our sport, is for everyone. But, with homelessness rates in Greater Manchester among the highest in the country, thousands of people remain literally locked out. The Manchester 24 Hour Run Against Homelessness was born out of our desire to bring people together from across the city and support the work of local organisations helping people off the streets and back into the community by raising funds for the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity.
