Run, Tiny Forest, Run!

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Tonight's session was a Tiny Forest sandwich with two lovely jogs either side.

We kicked off at The Bridge House. Everyone took a guess at the number of people who signed up for the London Marathon this year. 840,000. Molly won. That's more than 1% of the UK population which is a crazy statistic.

Anyway, next up we split in two. Cat led a longer run and we all congregated at the Tiny Forest in Cator Park.

It was looking pretty well mulched but Millie assured us it needed more.

The mulch pile was a fair distance away, so we took turns wheeling and filling up with the good stuff.

I'll be bark.

After a good 45 mins we'd covered half the Tiny Forest and left a decent pile for the other half of the trees. We might even be back to spread a little more next week. We'll see.

Nice job, team! And shout-out to Sarah for joining the Bromley crew for the first time 🙌

Leaf it out!

Bromley Report written by Shauna

Myself & Tatiana joined Viv, Lumen and the gang for the regular third Saturday of the month gardening session at the Silverdale Planters!

The flower beds are looking super vibrant with the arrival of spring, lots of colourful flowers are beginning to peak through.

Todays main task was weeding and rooting out the pesky sycamore tree saplings that just keep appearing!

With Lumen's expert guidance, we dove into a weeding mission armed with gloves and determination. Despite the saplings' best efforts to take over, we showed them who's boss!

We will be back next month ready to tackle more weeds, plant new seeds, and trim back overgrown plants!

Hoe-tally Saw-some

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

At what point is a pun so bad that it's good? Not there yet?

Last night 9 top quality GoodGymers came out for a jog and some weeding at a NEW TASK for us! I love the mystery of a new task. However this new task was for the Salvation Army who are understandably a reliable bunch.

We named, told everyone our favourite sports and looped round the block to get the the Sally Army building in Penge, where we met Becky who had provided plenty of tools for us to use.

GoodGympanzies?

It was actually a bit of a jungle with moss growing along the ground and bushy weeds growing around the sides. Armed with hoes, secateurs, those scrapey-outey things and even a saw for the tree-like thing, we cracked on.

It was a big space to clear and within 25 minutes we'd smashed it.

To weed or not to weed?

Kelsey was going to arrange a GoodGym Bromley-wide poll as to where we should remove one plant that looked particularly "planty" and maybe not so "weedy".

Unfortunately David and his secateurs beat us to it. 😅

Squat, paper, scissors

It's been a little while since we've gamified our journey back to base, but with a sports court on route, I couldn't resist. We did a quick game of squat, paper, scissors: Lose - and you sprint to the other side and back. Win - you squat.

Well played, and nice running and good deeding everyone ✨

Flower power hour!

Bromley Report written by Shauna

I joined Viv and the gang for their regular gardening session at the Silverdale Planters.

The group of local volunteers has expanded their efforts beyond the planters, venturing into the grassy side bank. Their green thumbs are unstoppable!

There was lots to plant this morning, as volunteers kept arriving with green things to contribute. The team always has gardening tips to share as we work, so its a great opportunity to learn something new! It’s exciting to see the space changing.

We will be back next month ready to tackle weeds, plant new seeds, and trim back overgrown plants!

You're gonna need a bigger barrow

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Thanks James for the pun-spiration!

Last night 11 wonderful people met for a jog and a good deed in the dark in the park.

We met at the Bridge House, shared our top tips for warming up on a cold day and hit the pavement - a lovely downhill jog to Cator Park.

Armed with shovels, a brush and just one wheelbarrow, we set about widening a path which was being encroached on by grass and soil. There was a lot of scraping, some slicing and some shoveling to fill up the wheelbarrow before it got dumped by the hedges.

In the end we managed to free up a good metre in places and a serious chunk of the path completed ✅

Top job/jog everyone! 🏃‍♂️💪✨
