We gotta have Faiths

Southwark Report written by Southwark runner

Four of us went to St. Faiths to sort out the donations ready to be handed out to rough sleepers tomorrow.

We were a little surprised at the amount of women and children's clothes but sorted them dutifully. When Andrea arrived, all became clear, as we realised the rough sleepers and refugees donations had been mixed.

Never mind, we quickly sorted them out again and sent them on their way in the van..

Every cloud has a netted lining

Southwark Report written by Lambeth runner

Despite the threatening clouds and chill in the air the rain held off so we were able to proceed as planned at Thorlands.

Simon got us all to work figuring out how to copy the netted frame completed by GGers in a prior session and we all took our turns with the drills.

After a while the group split to make the most of our time, so Richard and David went next door to the garden to continue some of the work done during the group run and made good headway shifting and getting weeds to where they could be more benefit - the compost heap. Meanwhile Tracey and Jo continued woodworking and managed to get a 3D product ready for Simon to work his magic with the netting!

Re-planting nature

Southwark Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)

David and Sam met Simon and Ruth at Thorlands Gardens for a different type of session from the past few months. We brought over tools to the woodchip depo area to dig out trees as Simon informed us that this depo will be completely cleared in June and he wanted to save a few plants.

We started with an "easy" Cherry tree taking back the weeds, gravelly stone layer before cutting through a mesh. As we dug, we realised it will be difficult due to the clay in the ground. Still we managed to get the Cherry tree out and concentrated our next effort on a thorny Rose tree.

We did the same process, but we had to take off a few branches and thorns as it was a big tree. We started to dig, but realised the roots were too big to tackle with the tools we brought over and that the session was coming to an end. We called it a day, knowing that next time we will be back to collect the rose tree.
