24 runners moved a garage full of camping equipment for Youth movement - the Woodcraft

It's April 2015...which means GG Camden is 2 years old! Next week we'll have an official birthday party!

This week we had a top notch task - we were helping the The Woodcraft Folk They are a great Youth group who try to develop children’s self-confidence and build their awareness of society around them....while having fun of course! They meet every Wednesday and organise outings and camps where they help their members understand important issues like the environment, world debt and global conflict and, in recent years, they have focused on sustainable development. Great work!

I like to Move it Move it

Our task was simple. The garage where they store all their camping equipment in, on Queens Crescent, is going to be demolished so Camden Council found another one to move into. It's only 200mtrs away but the task was incredibly daunting for a volunteer team of 6. With 24 people we could make light work of it.

Fill me in

We started at half past 7 and made really good progress. We probably shifted around 103 tents, 6,000 tent poles and enough pots and pans to keep 'Stomp' in business for the next 4 years. We hit a bit of an impasse though as we couldn't easily remove the shelving units from the wall, and without the shelves we were finding it difficult to start filling up the new garage. Steve came to the rescue, with some impressive logical thinking, and we eventually shifted the rather rickety units across the yard to their new home.

With a lickle bit of luck we can make it through the night

We were still making good time at this point and it looked like we would have enough time for a longer run on the way home. However we soon came to realise that stacking the garage was a lot more complicated than emptying it. Still we pushed on - feeding items into the belly of the garage one by one.

21 seconds to go...we got 21 seconds to go

We managed to cram everything in - but looking down at the clock we had about 21 seconds to get back to Somers Town before 8.30pm... so we legged it. Splitting into roughly 3 teams we all made it back in next to no time (well roughly 5mins quicker than the way out there). Great work all - Nadine and the entire Woodcraft Folk team were incredibly grateful.
