Prioritising Priory Street

0 GoodGymers made their way 5km to help their local community in West Ham.

Thursday, 13th of December 2012

Through one of the coldest nights yet this year, we set off from the West Ham changing rooms and headed West.  Winding through the housing estates and over the Abbey Road bridge, we found our cut through by Play, Sow and Grow (where we painted a room white on a previous run) and then headed north to the A11.Getting back off the main road again as fast as possible, we picked through another housing estate to find Priory Street and the community garden. We had 40 mins to get as much of the earth as possible moved into the beautifully built raised beds.Working fast, we lost count after 12 barrow loads and 14 mins. Each bed that we filled with the deliciously soft top soil required that we get into the bed and stamp the soil down to compact it.This was particularly fun but also meant more room for more barrows of soil.  In total, we shifted about 3 tons making a significant hole in the 15 ton delivery.
