Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pauline Harrison
On a gloriously sunny Sunday morning, https://www.goodgym.org/runners/sallyann-hardwick and I set off separately on our bikes for a GG gardening mission. Using a location app, we followed each other's progress, criss-crossing the streets and promenades of Liverpool, finally meeting up to cycle the last few miles together.
Arriving at the home of Mr J, it was evident that more than one visit would be required in order to clear his front path and gardens.
Mr J had been unable to safely navigate his way to the front gate, or access his bins as brambles, trailing plants and trees had grown wild, blocking his way in places and obscuring the view from his downstairs windows.
Sadly, Mr J had fallen near his gate earlier in the day and was in A&E when we arrived. After assuring him that we would do what we could and wishing him well, Sallyann and I set to work.
What a satisfying two hours that was. We uncovered an area of paving under the thick carpet of weeds, cut back trees that were blocking light and view from the living room windows, and made a clear, safe path to the front door. A new area was created to safely store the bins and the previously well maintained gardens and raised beds began to emerge once more.
Hopefully, Mr J will make a full recovery and will now be a little safer...hopefully, too, we can return to finish the job and tidy up the rest of the garden areas.
