On a hot and sticky evening, Ben and I ran 3KM to help Mrs L with her overgrown garden. Having such a large garden and living alone has meant Mrs L has not been able to keep up with it's mammoth growth spurt during spring and summer.

After an undulating run to Mrs L's house we were greeted with a big welcoming smile and an offer of water (being 27'C this was happily accepted). We had a little chat with Mrs L, introducing ourselves and explaining the concept of GoodGym and run missions. It was interesting to hear that her friend had found out all about us and how we can help following an online search ... the news of GoodGym spreads!!

Mrs L asked if we could try to clear the path into her garden so that her grandchildren could use it when they visited. She asked us if on seeing the garden we were afraid. We love a good challenge came our reply. With that, we donned our trusty red gloves and armed ourselves with the shears and the battle of the weedilions commenced (don't worry Cardiff GoodGymmers, Ben got stuck in with me too and I have photos to prove it). As the time progressed we came across all kinds of hidden treasures beneath the weeds and vines including a beautiful pot lighthouse and a very handsome garden gnome! (see picture attached)

Ninety minutes later after much chopping, raking, sweeping and clearing up we were finished. We invited Mrs L to come take a look and see if there was anything else she needed doing. She was amazed at how much we had managed to clear for her and so grateful that she could once again gain access to her garden. Whilst we had a drink of water, we chatted to Mrs L and she even took a lovely picture of myself and Ben for our report. We put the bags of garden waste we had created in her garage and she assured us that she had friends who would come and take them to the tip for her.

We bid Mrs L a fond farewell and headed off on our run home talking about the usual post run topic of food and what to have for dinner.

If you too want to get involved with missions and make a difference to people like Mrs L, then get your documents checked by Ben, complete the mission training and get verified. They are honestly so much fun to do and the people I have helped so far have been really appreciative of what we have done for them. Click here to find out more about missions
